Treasurers could mostly choose their employer at the moment. But many are happy where they are.
Treasury experts are currently in demand like never before. But most of them are so satisfied in their jobs that they don’t even want to change. This is shown by an analysis of our sister magazine DerTreasurer. According to the study, at least since 2009, there have never been more job ads for treasurers registered than in 2022, with 513 ads exceeding the previous peak from the previous year (447 job ads) by more than 10 percent.
“The demand for treasury experts increased in the past years mainly because of the numerous crises:
First the Corona pandemic, in which liquidity and cash management suddenly came into focus, then the Ukraine war and the energy crisis as well as the massively increasing inflation,” writes DerTreasurer editor Jakob Eich in his analysis of the figures.
Rudolf Schlett also observes that companies continue to look strongly for treasury experts. Above all, however, the recruiter and IT specialist sees a reluctance to change among the experts themselves: “Companies are looking, but the candidates don’t want to because they are either doing very well or they are afraid of the risk,” he told DerTreasurer.
The situation wont become better in future due there are less of fresh university craduates that could fill up the gap. We just can hope that germany becomes more attractive for foreign students and professionals.

What are treasury experts doing and why Germany needs them so much
Treasury experts are professionals who specialize in managing a company or organization’s financial resources, including cash, investments, and debt.
They work to optimize the use of financial resources, minimize financial risk, and maximize financial returns. Specifically, they may:
-
- Monitor cash flows to ensure that the organization has adequate liquidity to meet its financial obligations and operating needs.
-
- Manage investments to generate income or capital gains while balancing risk and return.
-
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to manage financial risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
-
- Manage debt financing and capital structure to optimize the cost of capital.
-
- Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, such as mergers and acquisitions or capital expenditures.
Germany, like many other countries, needs treasury experts to help manage the financial resources of its businesses and organizations. With the increasing complexity of financial markets and the growing importance of risk management in the wake of financial crises, the demand for skilled treasury experts has grown in recent years.
In Germany, the demand for treasury experts is particularly high due to the country’s strong financial sector and the presence of many large multinational companies. Skilled treasury experts can help these companies optimize their financial resources, manage risk, and maintain their competitive edge in the global marketplace.
